About Me
My current practice revolves around the human figure and the exploration of its inherent fragility. Using symbols of strength - predominantly the socially constructed myth of masculinity - I aim to embrace contradictions and incorporate them into an exploration and underscoring of the weaknesses intrinsic to the human state.
Each aspect of my practice is possessed of its own import. Drawings are central to all areas of the artistic process, as an immediate tool that concurrently reveals, creates and records information in a rapid and spontaneous manner. Paintings are an extension of this process, serving as a method of exploring light, composition and colour. At this stage layers are built and contemplated, and drips are formed suggesting the manner of conception.
Although all aspects of my practice inform and compliment each other, I am foremost a maker of things. Using my hands has always been fundamental to my practice, and central to my artistic expression. It is due to the tactile nature of the natural material clay, that I choose it as a transformative medium in my creative process. Every scratch, line, volume, and physical mark transfer messages and meaning - a record, as such, of my personal involvement.
My work aims to blur the boundaries between sculpture and ceramics, high art and craft.
